My Life in Haiku
Something a little different for you today.
I sometimes like to challenge myself to write about topics in a specific format. One format I especially like is the haiku. You know, that 3-line Japanese poem with the 5-7-5 syllable pattern.
As I’ve lived my nomadic life for the past almost 4 years, I’ve occasionally written haikus about things I have observed about this lifestyle.
Here are some of those short haiku-style reflections.
#1
Home is where you are
When you decide you will be
Peripatetic.
#2
It’s not vacation
It’s just regular living
In awesome places.
#3
I don’t have a house,
Or a car, or other things.
No stuff, no worries.
#4
Local residents
laughing, hanging out, living
The same as we do.
#5
To communicate
Among many languages
English is spoken.
#6
What does that sign say?
Learn some words in the language,
Now you understand.
#7
Great local cuisine!
Must learn to enjoy without
Putting on the pounds.
#8
Vacations are short
Hurried, stressful, exhausting
How do they enjoy?
#9
Beautiful sunsets
To view on each cloudless day
If only we watch.
#10
A nomadic life
Slowly exploring the world.
I have no regrets.
Did any of these resonate with you? Have a travel haiku of your own? Please share it in the comments. I’d love to read it!

Jim my nomad friend
A peripatetic soul
And perspicacious!
Love the haikus! Safe travels!
Well done, you! I wish I could write poetry in any form. Sadly, the words don't come out. But I enjoyed yours!
